A Kenya lobby group has opposed the mining of coal in Kitui until policy issues concerning the exploration of the mineral are resolved. The Regional Institute for Social Enterprise (RISE)-Kenya said that it was unacceptable for the Energy ministry to engage in efforts to fastrack mining in the Mui Coal Basin, while concerns by local residents were not yet addressed.
