After a long hot day I drove slowly down a road on the Embakasi plains. Just ahead, four white rhino were about to cross the road. I stopped the vehicle and waited in anticipation for them to move by sitting absolutely still. The rhinos behaved normally and walked quite close to the vehicle. The first three ( two females and a calf ) crossed without stopping and continued to graze with their square muzzles like giant grey lawnmowers that process grass and recycle it as manure. But the last rhino seemed to be in no particular hurry...
