THE chairman of Kenyatta University Council, Ratemo Michieka has called for action to reduce road accidents. Michieka called for stiffer penalties and attitude change to restore sanity on the roads. Studies show that more than 70 per cent of carnages are as a result of careless speeding, with drunkenness and poor road infrastructure being attributed to the worrying trend. Michieka’s sentiments come at a time when government is grappling with mechanisms it hopes, will reduce number of fatalities on the roads, which stand at 2,804 deaths since January this year.
