AU Offensive Against ICC May Not Have Been In Vain

Last Friday's vote by the UN Security Council may appear as a defeat for the AU's diplomacy to get the ICC cases against President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto deferred. Yet the long-term consequences of the AU's efforts will be far-reaching in terms of reshaping the ICC. Indeed, the AU diplomacy has not been in vain as the ICC now appears vulnerable and helpless as Africa is likely to up the stakes during the Assembly of State Parties at The Hague this week.
