AG Muigai pushes Rome Statute amendments at ICC Forum

African Union members led by Kenya and Namibia last night pushed for amendments of the Rome Statute to shield sitting Presidents from being tried at ICC arguing that this posed a great risk to peace and security on the continent. German was however among states which opposed the amendments during the ongoing ICC Assembly of State Parties (ASP) at The Hague in Netherlands. Attorney General Githu Muigai told the assembly that the ICC was no longer giving solutions to problems on the continent but the court was acting in apolitical and irresponsible manner.
