An acute shortage of tomatoes has hit Bomet town and its suburbs making its prices skyrocket. Speaking to the Star yesterday, vegetable vendors said they were forced to hike prices to cushion them from increased travel costs. "One tomato now goes for Sh15 up from Sh5 last year when we had local farmers selling to us directly from their farms unlike now when we have to get the commodity from other traders in neighboring districts," said Jane Ngetich a trader at Bomet town.
