Githunguri MP Njoroge Baiya has criticised his colleagues for passing a bill which awarded them a Sh9.3 million send-off pay. He said it was unconstitutional for the MPs to pass the bill on Wednesday night. Baiya said he was not in parliament when the bill was passed and praised President Kibaki for not signing the bill . “That was very unconstitutional and an acceptable for MPs to pass that bill. I myself was not in parliament as I was here in the constituency," the MP said. He said the MPs' move was ill-advised as many Kenyans live below the poverty line.
