Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos has cautioned pastoralist communities against sleeping in the same room as their livestock. Tolgos said the culture has been identified by medical experts as a cause of Tuberculosis. “Most of our people, particularly in the Kerio Valley, share manyattas with their goats and sheep to protect animals from theft,” he said. Tolgos said livestock urinate and defecate in the grass thatched homes during the night. “TB patients contract the disease from the manyattas which they share with their animals,” he said.
