Safaricom’s M-Pesa agents will no longer register new subscribers on the telco’s network after it suspended the role on Thursday. The move potentially deals a blow to M-Pesa agents' supplementary earnings. They primarily earn incomes through commissions on cash deposits and withdrawals, but sell airtime and SIM cards on the side for profit. M-Pesa agents earn between Sh4 and Sh190 per deposit transaction depending on the commission band, and Sh0-200 for withdrawal transactions, aligned to bands.
