A new effort to remove the water hyacinth from Lake Naivasha might finally save the troubled Rift Valley lake. The water body, a wetland recognised by the Ramsar Convention for its tropical biodiversity, has been degraded over the decades leading to mass fish deaths at some point. Currently, the lake is battling invasion by the water hyacinth, siltation, over fishing, pollution and degradation of the catchment area.
