Rep asks for more teachers

SIAYA women's representative Christine Ombaka has described the government's move to hire 5,000 teachers as a drop in the ocean. Ombaka said there is an acute shortage of teachers across the country and to bridge the gap, the government needs to hire more than 100,000 teachers. “A rough estimate of the teachers the government has decided to hire indicates that each subcounty in Siaya will be eligible to only 17 teachers if the figure is divided equally,” she said. Ombaka was speaking on Saturday at Ramba High School in Rarieda constituency during a fundraiser for building a dormitory.
