Port records increased import traffic

Kenya Ports Authority posted increased traffic of imported goods in 2012. Managing director Gichiri Ndua said this is a reflection of the huge imbalance of trade between Kenya and her trade partners. In terms of total port throughput, KPA recorded 6.20 million tonnes of imports against 0.43 million of exports in 2011 in the transit segment. “Imports made up 85.5 per cent of all traffic volume. Total imports grew by 10.6 per cent, posting 18.73 million tonnes in 2012 from 16.9 million in 2011 reflecting a huge imbalance of trade,” said Ndua...
