Two parents from Kajuki, Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency, have been charged with failing to protect their daughter against female genital mutilation. Paul Ndeke and his wife Priscilla denied the charge before Chuka resident magistrate Caroline Obara on Friday. They allegedly committed the offence on Thursday. They were released on a Sh200,000 bond. Obara said the bond could not be reduced because of the gravity of the case. He said female genital mutilation violates both the constitution and human rights. The case will be heard on February 23.
