Temperatures will improve by one or two degrees in many places this week.
This is a slight relief for Kenyans who have been waking up to cloudy and cold mornings.
While there is still a possibility for showers, there won’t be many showers and most of the country will stay dry.
The pleasant news come after daytime temperatures dipped to below 20 degrees Celsius in parts of central, including Nairobi at the weekend.
For many people, the weekend felt more like July than September.
Met services director James Kongoti said the temperatures will improve slightly in those areas.
“Areas within the Rift Valley, Western and parts of the Central highlands and parts of the Coast are expected to receive rainfall during the forecast period. Temperatures are expected to be generally warm throughout the forecast period,” he said in a five-day forecast ending on Wednesday.
Kongoti warned that Central region and parts of the Rift Valley will still have foggy mornings this week.
“Motorists are cautioned to be careful when driving along roads such as Limuru-Nakuru-Eldoret to avoid accidents,” he said.
Kongoti said the rest of September will be generally dry and sunny.
“Warm weather conditions with occasional cool and cloudy conditions is expected in the central highlands, including Nairobi. On average, warmer temperatures (both daytime and nighttime) are still expected during the month,” he said.
In highlands west of the Rift Valley, including Kitale and Kakamega, and the Lake Victoria basin, September will be generally dry with occasional afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
The coastal strip will be dry with occasional light morning showers.
He said Northeastern will be sunny and dry throughout the month.
“Occasional afternoon showers and thunderstorms are, however, likely to occur over the northwestern areas bordering Uganda and Sudan,” he said in his monthly forecast.
In a review of last month, Kongoti said the entire country including the Central highlands recorded higher than average temperatures.
Both the minimum (night-time) and maximum (day-time) temperatures were warmer than average at most stations with sunny conditions dominating especially during the second half of the month, he said.
