Institutions to be mandated to use energy saving jikos

Institutions using firewood for cooking will soon be required by the law to use energy saving cooking stoves. Faith Odongo, assistant director of renewable energy in the Energy ministry said they are working on regulations to make it mandatory for institutions such as schools, hospitals that use wood fuel to adopt improved cooking stoves. “Research has it that the use of improved cooking stoves can save 50 to 70 per cent of energy and this is the way to go as we try to promote use of alternative sources of energy in the country,” she said...
