Former President Mwai Kibaki was among hundreds of passengers that were stranded at the Kisumu International Airport as KQ's domestic flights delayed on Saturday.

Kibaki was on his way back to Nairobi from a function at Masinde Muliro University in Kakamega county.

He departed towards midday yet the flight was scheduled to leave Kisumu at 10.50am.

The delays were experienced at major airports including Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Those affected by the delays complained that there was no clear communications from the airline's management.

Passengers booked in Flight KQ A8650, which was scheduled to depart Nairobi for Kisumu at 6.30 am, were still at JKIA past midday on Saturday.

Kenya Airways has in the recent past suffered similar delays which the management has blamed on technical reasons.

In October, former politician Kenneth Matiba and his family were stranded at JKIA as Kenya Airways cancelled over 24 flights.

Early this month, the Kenya Airways crew had to serve passengers snacks to ease the frustration of flight delays of more than two hours.

Kenya Airways Chief Executive Mbuvi Ngunze told a local media that the delays were not unusual, adding that the same is normal during such peak seasons.
