Trans Nzoia distributes Sh14m drugs to hospitals

THE Trans Nzoia county government has bought drugs worth Sh14 million. Deputy governor Stanley Tarus said the drugs were procured following advice from county technical staff. He said the drugs have been distributed to Kitale District Hospital, Kapsara, Endebess, Kwanza and Saboti subdistrict hospitals and other health centres and dispensaries. Tarus said patients seeking treatment at the hospitals should not pay for services and drugs. “We want to ask patients to report to our relevant authorities in case they are told to buy drugs outside.”

Teso cops launch 24-hour helpline to fight crime

The police in Teso North have launched a round-the clock helpline for wanachi to report crime. Police boss Lucas Ogara said the new move is aimed at making it easy for members of the public to report any form of crime. He said the public should be free to report crime any time as they are available to respond to distress calls. Speaking in Teso on Tuesday, Ogara said the new measures will bring transparency and accountability in the police. He said crime has reduced by 47 per cent this year while last year it reduced by 52 per cent.

The director of E-Smart College in Mumias district has cautioned students against fake colleges in the region. Geoffrey Anyembe said students seeking to join vocational training institutes should beware of uncertified institutions. He said most of the new colleges in the district are not registered under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Act No 29 of 2013. THE government has increased the number of beneficiaries of the cash transfer programme for the elderly persons in Ugunja subcounty from 140 to 523. Area social development officer Betty Amondi said under the programme, the beneficiaries will be receiving a bi-monthly payment of Sh2,000.
