Orengo's son admitted to Aga Khan ICU

Siaya Senator James Orengo's son Bob James was rushed to Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit on Monday morning. Bob was reportedly taken to the hospital after vomiting when he returned home from a night out with friends on Sunday. He is believed to be with his mother and other family members. Orengo, who was at Lee Funeral home for Fidel Odinga's post mortem, is set to arrive at the hospital later today. More to follow.

Huruma collapsed building death toll rises to 2 as rescue operations continue

Ongoing rescue operations have found one more dead person bringing to two the number of fatalities following the collapse of a six-storey building in Nairobi's Huruma estate at 8:50PM Sunday evening. Forty people have so far been rescued with 26 having been treated and discharged. Fourteen others are still admitted in hospital undergoing treatment. One person has died while 14 casualties have been rescued and admitted at KNH after a six storey building collapsed at Huruma estate in Nairobi. Scores of people are still trapped in the top three floors of the building that came tumbling down at around 8pm on Sunday at Kasanova area. Kenya Red Cross Society said three of those injured have been discharged from hospital. Rescue operations are still going on despite residents flocking the area to have a glimpse of the collapsed building, the second in a span of one month. POLICE in Kisumu are investigating the death of a staffer at St John Manor Hotel‘s swimming pool. The hotel is formerly the Milimani Resort. The man drowned at the hotel’s swimming pool on December 26. The body of John Mark, 33, was found by the hotel’s management 30 minutes later. Kisumu county police boss Nelson Njiri said Mark was a pool attendant and drowned on Boxing Day while attending to clients. Hippo invades Kisumu school

A stray hippo on Friday attacked and killed a cow and injured three others at Kasagam Secondary School, Kisumu. The school’s principal Jane Owuor said the hippo strayed into the school through a barbed wire fence at 5am. She said the injured cattle are being treated by a hired veterinary doctor.

THE national government has approved Sh1.5 billion for the construction of the Malindi-Tsavo road. The project is set to begin in February, Roads Principal Secretary engineer John Mosonik has said. Girl, 8, dies in house fire

An eight-year-old girl was burnt beyond recognition on Saturday when their house caught fire at Mwakibagendi village in Kisii county. Mercy Atumba was sleeping in the same room with her two siblings when the fire broke out at 1am. Speaking in Kisii town, ward representative Dennis Ombachi said the two siblings escaped through the window. Their mother Beatrice Atumba, who was sleeping in another room, escaped with wounds.

AP officers manning a roadblock at Kanyonyoo shopping centre on Garissa Road, Kitui county, demand Sh500 bribe from sand transporters, the Star can now reveal. A Star reporter bribed a senior AP officer with Sh1,000 at the roadblock at 10pm on Friday to secure the release of two lorries transporting sand. The lorries were impounded the same day at 6.30pm.
