Former Kangundo MP Moffat Maitha was yesterday acquitted of charges of defiling a 15-year-old primary school girl. Also acquitted was s Veronica Nthenya, who had been accused of taking advantage of her closeness with the girl to organise Maitha's meeting with her. The trial magistrate Japheth Bii said the prosecution had failed to provide sufficient evidence. The witnesses also provided contradictory evidence, the magistrate ruled. Bii said the girl and her mother gave conflicting evidence and the doctors report was not conclusive that the girl had been defiled...
