The High Court has ordered the Uasin Gishu county government to re-open more than 500 bars and alcohol shops, which were shut down following the death of 28 people who drank illicit liquor. Bar owners, through lawyer Angu Kitigin, sued the county, saying it made a mistake by closing their businesses with “no tangible reasons”. Justice Ngenye Kariuki said there is no evidence that the bars were operating illegally or the brands they sell are bad.
