ODM has put Jubilee on the spot over the source of funds it is using for political activities and launch of Jubilee Party this Saturday.

In a statement issued yesterday at Orange House, the party said it has reason to believe Jubilee is “stealing money to finance party activities”.

Suna MP Junet Mohamed made the sensational claims but did not table any evidence.

“We want Jubilee to assure Kenyans its activities will not lead to the kind of inflation witnessed after the 1992 elections,” Junet said.

He said the ruling regime (Kanu) threw caution to the wind and flooded the country with illegally printed and stolen money.

“We want Jubilee to assure Kenyans it is not dipping its fingers into public coffers to steal borrowed money to hoodwink Kenyans and buy elections,” Mohamed said.

He added that Kenya is still reeling from inflationary effects of reckless election spending made possible through printed money, proceeds of the Goldenberg scandal, money laundering and drugs.

“Our economy cannot take another beating. We are going to hold Jubilee solely responsible should such effects again occur,” the Suna East MP said.

The statement came hot on the heels of revelations that Jubilee will spend Sh2 billion at the weekend during merger activities at Kasarani Stadium and Bomas of Kenya.

But in a quick rejoinder Kiraitu Murungi dismissed the claims as mere propaganda. National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale said Jubilee was a big party and members had generously contributed to the launch kitty.

Cord has also been put on the spot over the 47 branded buses Junet claimed will ferry ODM supporters to its Mombasa rally on Saturday.
