Turkana Senator John Munyes, Turkana East MP Nicholas Ngikor and Loima's Protus Akuja have defected to Jubilee Party ahead of its official launch on Saturday.

The three were received on Thursday by Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro, Water CS Eugene Wamalwa and Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka.

They were welcomed at Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi where the Jubilee affiliate parties' national delegates conference is taking place.

Others who announced their defections to Jubilee were Mathare MP Stephen Kairuki and Nominated Member of Parliament Isaac Mwaura.

Munyes said: "I resigned as Ford Kenya chair yesterday (Wednesday). I urge (Bungoma Senator Moses) Wetang'ula and the Ford Kenya family to join me."

Wetang'ula, who is leader of the party, said he will vie for president in the August 8, 2017 general election.

Mwaura said they had joined Jubilee, not defected from the parties that sponsor them.

A representative must formally resign from his party and the seat he holds within it. He must then notify the party, the Registrar of Political Parties and the relevant speaker.

Ethuro said: "Today is the day to form a robust united party for Kenya, a party that will deal with corruption and bad leadership, and ensure rule of law."

Lusaka said New Ford Kenya party has formally approved the resolution to dissolve and join Jubilee party.

Lusaka, who was the party's leader, said the move will promote politics of maturity and ensure Jubilee retains power in 2017.

This comes a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta's fierce critic and former Subukia MP Koigi wa Mwere dissolved his Chama Cha Mwananchi party and joined Jubilee Party.

Koigi said on Wednesday that he intends to challenge Nakuru Senator James Mungai on a Jubilee ticket in the next election.

Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto's administration has bought 47 Toyota Prados and a building in Pangani ahead of the JP launch.

While announcing the launch date on August 9, Uhuru said the party decided that all positions will be occupied by persons who will not be seeking posts in the August 8, 2017 general election.

He and Ruto are expected to finalise the list of officials before the weekend.
