THE Kenya Section of the International Commission of Jurists has asked parliament to entrench the law and enhance the strict compliance with the constitution. Poachers kill one rhino in Chyulu Hills

THE Kenya Wildlife Services rangers have discovered a dead Rhino in Tsavo that was killed by a poacher’s snare. KWS assistant director in charge of Tsavo conservation area, Robert Obrien told the Star on the phone that the Rhinos carcass was found with its horn still intact on Wednesday. He said the Rhino died from injuries sustained from a poachers wire snare at Chyulu Hills area. “The horn weighing about 1.67 kilos was still intact. The animal might have died three months ago,” said Obrien.

THE Kenya Long Distance Truck Drivers Union has dismissed claims that it has ditched the Central Organization of Trade Unions. General secretary Nicholas Mbugua yesterday said the union has no plans to leave Cotu which it declared its full affiliation. Kidero unveils 11 more trucks to boost Nairobi garbage collection

THE Nairobi government yesterday added a fleet of 11 trucks to boost its garbage collection programme. Governor Evans Kidero said the county government will improve garbage collection by acquiring another set of 39 trucks. He was speaking at Uhuru Park during the flagging off of the trucks yesterday. A house help has been jailed for two years over a Sh3 million theft. Christine Otunga pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal the money from her employer. She conspired with her mother Mary Khakasa to steal the money from Nicholas Kirera in Thome estate, Nairobi and hid it on a farm in Butula district. Police recovered Sh1.6 million. Senior principal magistrate Timothy Okello put Khakasa on a two-year probation. Khakasa’s son Geoffrey Sifuna, who went underground with the rest of the money, is still at large.

A man who claims to be a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) undercover officer was yesterday charged in a Kibera court with attempting to extort by threats. Police allege that on March 18, Hamerton Nyamu Nguyo, with intent to extort, threatened Peter Gitau that he will not be able to operate the bar business in the area. A case in which city tycoon is accused of misuse of his licensed gun was yesterday adjourned. Raj Devani failed to show up for the trial. The case was scheduled for hearing before trial magistrate Daniel Ochenja. His lawyer Robinson Kigen successfully applied for adjournment, saying Devani is unwell. The prosecution opposed the adjournment request saying Devani chooses when to attend court cases. The prosecutor said Devani has never produced any medical treatment document showing he was unwell. A 22-year-old man was yesterday charged with theft. Edwin Onyango is connected to a series of robberies in Ongata Rongai in Nairobi. Onyango allegedly violently robbed Tom Gitau of a mobile phone, car radio face and money all valued at Sh15,000 at Leiser Hill on March 19.
