Man kills self after quarrel

MIGORI A man yesterday committed suicide by hanging himself in his bedroom. Aloyce Waria, 36, from Kanguka village in Suna East constituency, used an electric wire to take away his life. Migori police boss Joshua Opiyo said Waria returned home at around 10 pm while drunk and picked up a quarrel with his wife and children. Opiyo said Waria’s wife Jackline Akoth left the house after her husband chased her away from their matrimonial home.

Eldoret police intensify swoop on criminals

POLICE in Eldoret town have intensified a crackdown on criminal gangs, which have been terrorising the residents. So far, two guns and several bullets have been recovered in the swoop. Two suspects have been arrested and three thugs were shot dead in the town on Tuesday. Nyandarua county has formed a task force on land planning and development. The eight-member team was appointed by Governor Daniel Waithaka at the county headquarters in Ol Kalou town yesterday. KAKAMEGA The chairman of the Kenya Church, Western region Bishop Nicholas Olumasai has called for a referendum to change the constitution to bring down the public wage bill. Camp offers free fistula surgeries

Gem Sagam Community Hospital has organised a 10-day free surgical camp for women with fistula. Speaking to the Star at the hospital yesterday, general manager Walter Obita said the camp started on Monday and will run through to 28 March. Fistula is an abnormal condition that leads to uncontrolled continuous leakage of urine and faecal matter in women, which can be corrected through surgery. Obita said women in rural women are the most affected and some suffer in silence for fear of stigmatisation. He said screening will be done daily.

HUMAN rights crusader from Nyeri county Njuguna Mutahi has passed on after long illness. The 55-year-old crusader who was the brother of the late humourist Wahome Mutahi died after a long illness at Outspan Hospital near Nyeri town on Wednesday. Njuguna with Maina Kiai were some of the founders of the Kenya National Human Rights Commission. His brother Richard Wahome said Njuguna has been treated in many hospitals for the last few years before succumbing to illness. He leaves behind widow and two sons.
