TANA River County scored the lowest marks in terms of performance, as James Tinga Mwasaha, from Mariakani primary school in Kilifi, emerged top. A student in Kilifi has asked Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo to take action against a teacher who did not register her for last year's KCPE. Mutula says new laws reduced cases of exam cheating
Tough penalties by the new Kenya National Examination Act saw cases of cheating during national examinations drop by 90.99 per cent. Only 718 candidates from 41 centres were involved in examination irregularities as compared to 7,967 in 2011. “This was a very significant drop,” Education minister Mutula Kilonzo said yesterday as he released the results. Little known St Anne’s Primary School Kiminini in Trans Nzoia was ranked number one in last year’s KCPE in the county. Kitale Academ,y which has always performed well, was second but produced the best candidate in the county. MInister says no to class repetition
Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo has told teachers and parents not to force pupils to repeat. He said there are no indications that making pupils to repeat classes improves performance. “Repeating does not add value to learners' achievement even if parents and teachers want them to do so. Schools that force pupils to repeat must be reported,” Mutula said. Results for KCPE 2012 improved in 2012 with 416,900 candidates getting above 250 marks. Constituencies misusing CDF - Report
A whopping Sh 242 million of the total Sh1.8 billion allocated for the Constituency Development Funds (CDF's) in the period 2010/2011 is either wasted or unnaccounted for, a report on the use of the kitty in 28 counties shows. According to the report released today by the National Taxpayers Association (NTA) shoddy projects- both complete and incomplete- swallowed up the bulk of the funds with Sh179.1 million wasted on such projects.
