Kenyans have been asked to take good care of their donkeys to prevent them from premature deaths. Speaking during a visit to Njoro, Donkey Sanctuary country manager Duncan Ochieng’ said straining the donkey has reduced its lifespan from 30 to 25 years. “Most people do not think their donkeys need shelter and good care like other livestock. They believe that donkeys are strong and do not need a good enclosure,” said Ochieng’. Solomon Onyango, a vetenary officer with the Donkey Sanctuary, said most donkeys are admitted to the sanctuary’s clinic when they are already very weak.
