West Pokot governor demands pay for Police Reservists

West Pokot governor Simon Kachapin has promised to collaborate with the national government to ensure that the Kenya Police Reservists are paid to avoid misuse of government weapon in illegal activities. Kachapin was speaking yesterday during the official opening of West Pokot county assembly. He said the KPR have played a major role in restoring peace in the county and they deserve to be paid for their efforts. “The KPR should be given some allowances to up lift their living standards and to avoid misusing government guns in criminal activities,” he said...

Rain stops road works in Nzoia

TRANS NZOIA Heavy rains in Trans Nzoia have halted the construction of roads. Trans Nzoia Kenya Rural Roads Authority regional manager Laban Ngigi said the government allocated Sh39 million for the construction. Speaking to the Star in his Kitale office yesterday, Ngigi said “The rains have really affected our services and we have halted the work until the rains stop.”

MIGORI Police in Migori have recovered 10 bulls and two heifers stolen from Ndhiwa in Homa Bay. They were found along Got Jope-Wasio road driven by three suspected rustlers who escaped when they were stopped by police on patrol. Area police boss Alfred Makoma said Investiga- tions are underway.

Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua has promised to fight corruption in the county. Mbugua was speaking in Nakuru on Thursday during the opening of the county assembly. The governor said there is no proper growth in Nakuru due to rampant corruption which hampers the county’s development. “During my tenure, all corrupt officials will be dealt with and all the members of the county assembly should from now hence forth inculcate a culture of fighting corruption,” he said. He said they will create an enabling environment for private investors.

THE Narok Central Business Association chairman David ole Sankok has renewed calls to relocate the county headquarter to Ewaso Nyiro trading centre. “The government should relocate the headquarters to Ewaso Nyiro as the town is prone to flooding due to lack of proper drainage systems” said Sankok. KILIFI county government will set aside a day each month to clean all its major towns so as to address environmental pollution. Mombasa speaker Thaddeus Rajwayi has told the county representatives to rise above petty politics and focus on developing the county. Speaking at the opening of the county assembly on Thursday, Rajwayi said Mombasa cannot afford to fail in any way. He said though there is bound to be conflict once in a while between the central and county governments, Mombasa will strive to put that at the back seat. “Failure is not an option for us. We have to ensure we serve the people with the respect and dignity they deserve,” he said.
